Tri-national sharing of culture via English as a lingua franca

Everything

Basic information

This previously successful project is tri-national by design.  My university is located in Azerbaijan, an amazing country on the peripheries of both Europe and Asia.  I plan for my B1/B2/C1 students to engage in telecollaboration (mostly asynchronous) on various platforms with similar groups of students from two other countries.  The goal is intercultural understanding and competence building via video-based sharing of cultural information.  English will be a lingua franca for the exchange, and participants must be non-native speakers.  The workload is a supplement, not a replacement, to regular classroom activities and requires 1 to 3 hours of work per student per week, out of 4 total.  Ideally, we hope to find participants from countries exhibiting a fair amount of cultural, linguistic, and geographical distance from Azerbaijan, such as those in most of Latin/South America, Sub-Saharan Africa (non-native speakers of English unless also bilingual in indigenous languages), Northeast/Southeast Asia, and Iceland.  Future start dates include 8 Feb 2019 and 5 Apr 2019.
